The ICAD System is an interactive, knowledge-based engineering (KBE)software product for mechanical design and manufacturing engineeringautomation. As a complement to traditional CAD technology, knowledge-based engineering extends the product design process beyond geometricmodeling to capture the knowledge of a company's most important asset --the experience of its engineers. Unlike traditional CAD systems thatmanipulate mainly geometric information, the ICAD System captures theengineering intent behind the product -- the now and why in addition tothe what of the design.The ICAD System gives companies several strategic advantages, includingthe ability to capture the design knowledge of experienced designers,promote concurrent engineering by incorporating design, engineering, andmanufacturing rules into the product model, and to reduce the time tomarket by generating new design iterations automatically.Knowledge-based engineering is an engineering method in which knowledgeabout the product is stored in a comprehensive product model. Unlike aCAD model, a knowledge-based engineering model contains all theinformation required by the design.
